Opportunity builds on itself. One opportunity leads to another. Its impact is exponential.
In a nearly forgotten corner of the world called Guinea-Bissau, there are thousands of young people waiting for their first opportunity in life. They’re ready to work for a brighter future. They’re ready to pursue their dreams. All they need is the opportunity.
That’s where you and I can make a difference.
With your support, the WAVS School in Guinea-Bissau has equipped more 1,000 West Africans with life-changing job skills in the last decade. One year after completing their courses, more than 75% of graduates are working or continuing their studies.
Now it’s time to grow.
WAVS recently acquired 28 acres of land to build a new campus in Bissau, the capital of Guinea-Bissau. This new campus will serve 10 times as many students on a piece of property 15 times the size of the existing campus. Instead of training 1,000 students every decade, the WAVS School will soon be able to train 1,000 students every single year.
Here’s some great news: the foundation of the first classroom building is already under construction! Once complete, hundreds of students each year will be able to study English, French, and basic computer skills in this building. Click to learn more about the Bissau Campus.
Meanwhile, a 650-foot deep well was completed in June [See video]. A solar power system will provide the energy needed to run both the well pump and the classroom building.
Thanks to your partnership, The Bissau campus is scheduled to open its doors in April 2021. On that day, we’ll celebrate what we’ve accomplished together. And we’ll celebrate the new opportunities that West Africa’s future leaders will have to build their own futures!
It will be a day when we are one step closer to a world where everyone—no matter who they are or where they live – can have the opportunity to provide for themselves and their families for the rest of their lives.
Thank you for joining me in this journey. Thank you for giving the gift of opportunity.
Sincerely,
Chris Collins
WAVS Executive Director
